Applause - flash story

Applause

Three minutes of fame was all she asked for: Three. Minutes.
A crew member signalled to her: “you’re up in two!”
She nodded. Deep breath. She shook her arms, shoulders, getting ready for the moment. Standing in the opening to the stage, the arena, she heard the crowds roaring, stamping their feet; her audience, impatiently waiting for her. A bell was struck.
Suddenly, insecurity crawled up on her. Should she smile or keep a straight face? And what kind of smile should she use, mysterious? Or laugh widely, cheerfully, girl-next-door style? And her eyes, how should her eyes... She should be tempting, beckoning, maybe a slight bit naughty?
She plunged forward from the curtains, enshrined in spotlights, and strode across her private catwalk, making her little turn in her leopard print bikini and held up a sign saying “Round 2”.
Applause resounded.

so you make a habit about running around full arena's in a leopard print bikini? Just kidding, I'm glad you like it ;)

  4. Hey Drachma,

thanks! :) It took me quite some time to be up for presenting what I had in my mind properly. Guess it simmered enough...

  5. Wow! Very good! I just read this and a few other of your stories, and I enjoy your style a lot. It's nice to know that there are other people using blogs the same way I do. I thought I was the only one writing short stories!

  6. Hello Matthew,

glad you like the stories. And you're definitely not the only one writing short stories around here.

If you're interested in meeting other short story writers, you can see the blogs in my blog list, most of those are fiction writers.

You could also go to the Coffee Shop (on the Blogger Help Forum) and look for threads about writing and short stories. A lot of us will turn up there.

Here's the link for the Coffee Shop:

And what's the link to your blog? I'd love to read some of your stories.

    Best wishes,

  7. My blog is called "On the Subject of Being Awesome" and it's located at http://onthesubjectofbeingawesome.blogspot.com/

I'd love any input or comments you may have. I actually randomly stumbled upon the Coffee Shop, which is how I found this blog. So, I am slowly discovering others that I didn't know existed. Very cool stuff.

    Thanks for the reply!

  8. It was pretty much the same for me, I never heard of the Coffee Shop when I rolled into blogging, I thought it was a place where they served Coffee :D

And then I started meeting others, like you are now. Feel free to search us out, we're in the forum more than we should be :)

And you're quite welcome. I'll take a look at your blog as soon as I can.
